李沐宸 MU-CHEN LEE
Mu-Chen Lee (b. 1996, Taipei) is an artist based in London. His work shows the reflection on the global world from lived experience, focusing on conversation of— time, narratives, moving and traveling, nationality and geopolitics. With a multi-disciplinary practise, he explores collective experience and questions the boundaries of cultural heritage, especially in the modern days and the everydayness.
Lee’s work shows the activities of ‘collecting, remembering, and being’. The world surrounding him gets transformed into forms of his choice. “How do you read this?” is a repeating message he sends to viewers. Images can be universal; objects can seem ubiquitous, however, people will look for an index, or hold onto a standard for recognition, and in any ways decide either it is something ‘of within’ or something belonging to ‘the others’. If there were a manual for this seemingly realistic yet imaginary world, it would be a story; or to put it this way— gravity pulls.
Each individual creates a field that draws in ‘萬事萬物 (every events and every beings, or simply everything)’, and then time exists. Lee’s work invites viewers to feel time in a nonlinear sense, when the past-present-and-future is a folktale, a historical event to be retold over and over until no one remembers.
